Halloween

This year was full of parties.  The kids were so into Halloween and they really love the decorations.  I let them choose their own costumes online and then we went to Walmart to pick them up.  When we got to Walmart it took us over an hour to pick up the costumes because the kids had to try out every single Halloween decoration.  They pushed every single button and had every thing singing, shaking and flashing.

We also had to talk about every decoration we saw as we passed houses so the past 30 days have been intense car rides involving discussion of all things spooky!

The children chose their own costumes this year and pored through every costume catalogue that came in the mail.  Braden chose a skeleton ninja outfit and Addie chose a Supergirl outfit.  Originally she wanted to be pink Supergirl but then she saw the red, blue and gold costume and really wanted that one so I was happy she went with the traditional look.

The kids changed their minds over and over about what they wanted to be so I told them I'd buy them one new costume and if they decided not to wear it they had to be something from our large costume collection in the dress up closet.  But of course I gave in and bought them another set of costumes.  I got Addison a Ballerina witch outfit so she could wear it to ballet class.  Braden wanted this horrible looking zombie doctor costume that was very gory, had a huge mask covering the entire head and was expensive.  I settled on a doctor costume with blood spatters and a creepy half mask.  Dr. Deranged was the name of it and Braden was quite happy.

Our first Halloween event was the preschool Fall Festival.  I was curious to see what the kids would choose to be.  Addie chose Supergirl but Braden chose to create his own look.  He took a skeleton bodysuit that we already had and wore that with the skeleton ninja half mask.  It was an interesting look but he was very proud.  The kids had lots of fun playing games and Braden had even more fun eating cookies and candy for most of the time.  Addie, we discovered, has a special talent for cheating at games.  She was playing a game that you walked in a circle on colored squares while music played.  When the music stopped the kids that were on a colored square that was drawn out of a hat won a prize.  Addie figured it out quickly that when she stopped on a square she could just jump to the color of square that they called.  I decided to let it go since she's 3 but wow it surprises me how conniving she can be!

Our next event was our first family professional photo shoot.   We went to a local cider mill and surprisingly the photos went great.  Braden was a little model, choosing his own poses and following all directions.  I was very proud of him.  Addison did well but was definitely not able to last very long and boogie bunny made an appearance in most of the photos!

We celebrated afterward with fresh apple cider, doughnuts and soft pretzels!

Later that day we went to a Halloween party at Inverness Country Club.  Addie wore Supergirl again but Braden chose Dr. Deranged without the surgical hat and light.  So I'm not sure anyone knew what he was except he was wearing bloody scrubs.  The kids ran around with their friends, bounced in the bouncer, ate too much candy and when they finally ran out of energy we hopped on a nighttime hayride.  It was a really fun and busy day!

Today was officially Halloween and the kids were no less excited than they'd been everyday the past week.  I worked really hard to get the chili and hotdog party ready in time but needed to finish a few things.  So when all of our friends arrived, I had Brian and Nana take the kids trick or treating while I stayed back at home.  I was sad to miss out but there's next year!

Brian told me that this year the kids were way better at trick or treating.  In the past they'd get about 5 pieces of candy and then want to go home and eat it.  Addison took the lead this year and was yelling at Braden to hurry up, they needed to get a move on so they could get more candy.  What a diva she's turned into, first she cheats at preschool games and now she's on a mission to collect the most candy!

Overall it was a great Halloween week of fun!  Now will someone come and clean up my house, pack away the decorations and spot clean chocolate off the costumes!
