Farewell Barney Cat

Early in July Barney Cat had to go to the animal hospital since he had a urinary blockage. He spent three days there and had to undergo a surgery. The kids were fascinated by the fact that Barney was sick, they have talked about it all day. They were also enjoying that he didn't run away from them and they could pet him since he was so sick he could only lay on the couch. While I was upstairs on the phone with the vet they were downstairs with him and when I came downstairs they had all the play doctor tools out and were performing vet care on the helpless cat. It was funny but poor Barney.

When he came home he didn't recover very well and got sick again. I had to make the hard decision to put him down so he'd not be suffering. I drove to Lansing and met my mom so she could take him into the Humane Society, it was just too hard for me to do that with the kids. As we drove to Lansing the kids were with me and Barney was in the front seat in his cage. He was not doing well and ended up puking outside the cage and into the seat of the car. The kids of course, thought this was exciting and now once again they have this idea that before you die you get sick and puke. If you recall when we had the fish tank a fish died and I flushed him down the toilet. The same day one of the kids got sick and threw up. And then Uncle Scott died so Braden told people that our fish got sick and died and we flushed it down the toilet and Uncle Scott did too. Barney's farewell didn't help to change his ideas about death.

They do understand that Uncle Scott and Barney are both in heaven and that everyone is healthy and happy in heaven. Its very cute to hear them explain it all.

We'll miss you Barney
